The first step is to prepare the site for paving by grading it so that there are no low spots where water can collect after a rainstorm. Next comes applying an emulsified asphalt binder to create a smooth surface with minimal ruts or bumps. The first thing you need to know is the size of your project. For example, if you are putting in a small area like an around-the-base type installation for basketball courts or tennis courts, then you will only need approximately 50 tons of asphalt mix. On the other hand, if it’s more than about one hundred square yards (eighty five meters), then you’re looking at 100+ tons of stone aggregate and binder mixture.

Once these measurements have been taken care of, all that remains is to establish where exactly on site each truck load needs to go; this can be done with spray paint before they arrive onsite. Also make sure there are no pipes underground as well because any damage caused by digging them up afterwards could cost thousands upon thousands of dollars.

Once the asphalt is onsite, it’s a matter of following some basic steps to get it properly laid out and smoothed over with a finishing roller:

– First comes laying down an initial layer about ½” thick or so

– Then you will add another one inch layer that gives your aggregate mix something to grip onto

– After allowing these two coats to dry for around 12 hours (or even overnight if need be), give each area three more passes with your rolling machine starting from the center going outward in all directions at 90 degrees from one another until everything is level and smooth as glass. The last step consists of spraying a bit more emulsified asphalt binder mixed stone dust across the entire surface to help keep it in good condition and looking great for years to come.

And that’s all there is to it! As long as you have a solid plan, the proper equipment on hand, and some basic knowledge of how to do things properly, laying down a new asphalt surface should be a breeze. Just remember that even the best laid plans can go awry so always stay vigilant and double check everything before starting to pave.
